| / / / / / / <네모>는 위와 아래, 앞과 뒤, 시작과 끝처럼 우리가 인지하는 시공간의 양극성과 함께 그 단일성을 보여 준다. 2m 높이의 사각기둥을 올려다보면 천정에 매달린 거울을 통해 그 기둥의 꼭대기에 무엇이 있는지 확인할 수 있다. 거울이 보여주는 기둥 꼭대기의 것은 기둥의 바닥면이다. 높은 산에 올라가 바라보게 되는 건 단지 더 가까워진 하늘만이 아니다. 우리는 산 아래 펼쳐진, 우리가 애써 달아났던 곳을 드넓게 보게 된다. The square pillar represents the binaries of space and time—up/down, front/back, beginning/end— as well as their oneness. The viewer, glancing at the ceiling above the 2-meter pillar, discovers the suspended mirror. What is reflected on the mirror surface is apparently the top plane of the pillar, but in truth turns out to be an image of its interior bottom surface. When we go up a mountain, our gaze is directed not only toward the increasingly closer skies above our heads; we also turn our eyes toward the panoramic view at the foot of the mountain, which offers us a wide-angle perspective of what we have willingly left behind. |
