| "Road that exists and does not exist, No-dut-gil" The ʻNo-dut-gil’ is said to be a stepping stone bridge built by islanders a long time ago by stacking stones to connect the island to another island or the island to the mainland. Although it has been turned into a road now, its height is still low. The bridge is submerged in the water at high tide and is only visible at low tide when one can cross the road. It was amazing that such a road still exists in today’s rapidly changing era, and it was even reverential in terms of following the laws of nature. The existence of such a road left a strong impression on me. I wanted to embody the shape of a discontinuous road of the no-dut-gil in my work. |

| 2021년, 나는 태평염전에서 주최하는 입주 작가 프로그램에 선정되어 3개월(9월~11월) 동안 전라남도 신안의 작은 섬, 증도에서 생활하고 작업했다. 그곳의 염전에서 천일염이 채취되는 과정을 지켜보면서 바닷물을 소금으로 만드는 8할의 힘은 태양이라는 것을 알게 되었다. 또한, 증도에서 목격하는 일출과 일몰은 도시에서 보는 것보다 훨씬 드라마틱 했다. (증도는 특히, 낙조로 유명하다.) 태양빛에 의해 장대한 광경이 펼쳐질 때면, 하루가 이렇게 위대한가 싶을 정도였다. 도시에서처럼 가로등이 많지 않은 그곳에서는 해 뜸과 짐에 따라 생활 리듬이 갖춰졌다. 마치 태양이 하루를 지휘한다는 생각이 들었다. 그 하루하루를 거듭하면서 바닷물은 소금이 되고, 우리는 각자 우리 자신들이 된다. |
